How Verde Was Their Valley was meant to be about my interaction with my new friends within the Yavapai Apache tribe in Arizona. And in many ways it was. But I found my mind wandering off into many directions.
Much trauma had again happened in my life. I lost two of my closest beings. But I coped. The old donkey on the edge Chris Griffiths was dead. The new twenty three year sober rebuilt model was here to stay. Again a pup was by my side and the journey was getting longer and more interesting.
My new dog Saffy helped me address the loss and the pain, and nudged me in the right direction.
This book seemed to incorporate the three previous books and in some ways give closure. It dealt with the violence of my youth, the loss of my beloved Pippin and my journey further into the small towns of North America. The book deals with the reality of life. The pain and the hurt. But it also gives an insight into my own warped sense of humour. I discovered at a very early age that if we don’t laugh, we cry.
