Please Wait For Me

Dec 8, 2024

Please Wait For Me is the fifth book in this series of six. It is a completely true love story, with every word uttered by the deeply in love young couple. I have watched Bill and Patsy Broderick meet and fall in love. I have seen their relationship develop. I have wept with them when they couldn’t be together. I stood back and smiled as they became adults. The only thing that stopped them noticing me was a seventy year time gap.

All the information in these books has been taken from over 1000 handwritten love letters dated 1948-1954. As time went by I transcribed every single word, sentence, paragraph and page. I then put every letter in order. It was at that point I realised something. Bill and Patsy were not just two working class kids falling in love. They are each and every one of us. They believed in each other and just wanted that fairy tale life. Isn’t that what we all want? Just to love, laugh and to be wanted? And just like in our own lives, we want that passion to last forever.

Unfortunately the leaders and rulers of the world are often not on the same page. Just for one moment try and imagine that you love someone so much that it hurts. And when you eventually reach that age when you can marry and live happily ever after, BOOM. The world decides to have a war, and decides one of you is needed. Nobody at the top cares how ill you are. In honesty you don’t really care yourself. You are resigned to the fact that you have to do your bit. After all there are very few options.

Bill and Patsy are so much a part of me now. I feel a part of their family. I have travelled the US and met some of their grown up children and grandchildren. I have shared stories with them, and watched them weep. It is incredible to have had a Time Machine of letters, and have known the couple before their children were born. During this journey I have learned so much about life and about a certain time in world history. But the two most valuable lessons I learned were these. If you believe in something then never give up. And true love really can last forever. I know from experience that life isn’t easy, I really do. But if we have respect and morals in our life then we are halfway there. And I thank Bill and Patsy for help making me a better person.
